National Institute of Securities Markets (NISM) and TERI School of Advanced Studies (TERI SAS) had jointly organised a “3rd International Conference on Business, Economics and Sustainable Development (ICBESD 2020)” during March 2-3, 2020 at NISM Campus, Patalganga.
Research papers were invited from academicians, research students and industry participants by issuing call for papers on all prominent research platforms on various themes like Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) issues and Sustainable Development, Business Ethics, Business Sustainability, Corporate Governance, Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR), Sustainable Investment, Corporate Reporting, Sustainability Reporting, Integrated Reporting, Green and Sustainable Portfolios, Social Entrepreneurship, Banking and Financial Inclusion, Micro Finance, Banking System and Sustainable Development, Transformation in Taxation System, Universal Basic Income (UBC), Universal Health Coverage (UHC), Social Capital, Skill Development and Demographic Dividend, Economics of Sustainable Development, New and Renewable Energy, Circular Economy, Innovations in Financial Instruments for Sustainable Development, Green Bonds, Social Impact Bonds, SDG 2030: Issues and Challenges, Climate Finance, Climate Change, Financing sustainable development goals (SDGs), Accounting and Finance for Sustainable Development, Politics of Sustainable Development, Sustainable Business Leadership, Sustainable Business Strategies, Green Supply Chain Management etc.
There was an overwhelming response to ‘call for papers’. More than 150 ppaers were received from researchers from Institutions in India viz., IIMs, IITs, post graduate colleges, professionals engaged in securities industry, etc. Papers were also received from researchers from foreign universities. All the papers were reviewed by independent academic reviewers on various parameters as relevance of the paper to the conference theme, robustness of research methodology applied etc. Finally, around 80 papers were prsented for presentation at the Conference. A compendium of accepted papers was released at the conference after taking consent from authors.
The conference began with the lighting the lamp and Saraswati Vandana. The conference was inaugurated by Sri Shailesh Nayak, Chancellor, TERI SAS on March 2, 2020. The speakers at the conference includes Mr. J. N. Gupta, Managing Director, Stakeholders Empowerment Services delivered his thoughts on “Issues Relating to Corporate Sustainability & Corporate Governance” and Dr. Ajay Mathur, Director General, TERI, Delhi delivered his views on “Green Business Models, Policy Certainty and Low-cost Capital: The Three Pillars of Accelerated Sustainable Development”.
A jury committee (consisting of eminent academicians, regulators and practitioners) judged the papers and presentations at the conference. The Best Paper Awards were sponsored by CFA Institute Asia Pacific Research Exchange. The best two papers were given cash awards of ₹ 25,000 each. The topics of the best two papers selected are as follows:
1. Demographic Change and Economic Growth in India: A Macro-Economic Analysis
2. Post to Payment Bank Case study of India Post on Financial Inclusion
All the paper presenters and participants were awarded certificate of presentation and participation respectively. Valedictory speech for the conference was delivered by Vidhu Shekhar, Country Head, India, CFA Institute.
