The National Institute of Securities Markets (NISM) is a public trust established in 2006 by the Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI), the regulator of the securities markets in India. The institute carries out a wide range of capacity building activities at various levels aimed at enhancing the quality standards in securities markets.

Under Leadership Lecture Series5, Justice B. N. Srikrishna, Former Judge, Supreme Court of India addressed the students and faculty members of NISM on Tuesday December 28, 2021. The topic of the session was “Data Privacy and Financial Transactions”.

Justice B. N. Srikrishna, during his address, discussed the close relationship between Financial matters and Data privacy that goes hand in hand. He touched upon the topic of Right to privacy as a fundamental right and every person should understand that he/she has right to refuse consent and to protect his/her data. Justice Srikrishna deliberated on Integrity of Data, Data breach and Role of Regulator in data privacy in Financial transactions.

Real life examples from National and International importance in data usage its purpose, limitations and requirements of law were also discussed. Justice Srikrishna also answered a large number of questions raised by the audience. The brief, but highly informative session was attended by over 200 students and faculty in hybrid mode.
